WHAT IS DREDGING?
Dredging technologies are developing in parallel with the growth of maritime sector and the products are being diversified in the directions of increasing needs. Dredging applications are especially required in port construction, capacity upgrade of existing facilities, submarine facility applications.
In this process, the material (mud, sand, rock, etc.), which is located on the sea ground and dredging will be applied on, is discharged or transported by dredging equipments which are located on floating vessels. The equipment to be used may vary depending on the type of material to be processed and the seabed.
For a smooth implementation, prior to the application, following data should be observed in the dredging area;
- Maximum dredging depth
- Split or discharge distance
- Characteristics of the material to be dredged
- Dredging amount
Jack Up Barge
Cutter suction Dredger
Long reach Excavator
Following steps are generally being followed while sea dredging applications are carried out:
This is the stage of field examination, that dredging will be carried out on, and determination of the equipment to be used.
This is the stage of distance calculation between the equipment and the site, duration calculation of the machinery which is going to remain in the site and notification of the employer about the situation.
This is the depth measurement of the area being dredged. It is performed twice, before and after the dredging and the amount of dredging is determined by comparing these two data.
This is the application phase. Dredging process is continued by the 24-hour work unless there are any obstacles in terms of the amounts and areas committed by the employer, and the task is completed in the commitment period.
The dredging process is terminated and the dredging equipment is evacuated from the site.
